Chris Smith is a retired British educator with over forty years’ experience in international education, particularly in Hong Kong, Jamaica and Thailand. After decades of teaching and leading in international schools, he founded the International English Schools Foundation (iESF) in 2003, based in Hong Kong, to provide professional development, digital support, and strategic consulting to schools across Southeast Asia. That work grew into a global network through his long-running online platform, shambles.net.
Chris was a speaker at the very first TEDx event held in Thailand, reflecting his early commitment to exploring the future of learning. Under his online avatar "Shamblesguru," he spent four immersive years in the virtual world *Second Life*, teaching students of all ages from around the world and pioneering virtual education well ahead of its time.
Now based in Chiang Mai, Thailand, he writes and self-publishes books, experiments with AI tools for storytelling and illustration, and stays quietly engaged in education. His work reflects a global perspective, a respect for educators at every level, and a belief that even small online projects can ripple outward in surprising ways.
